Poverty & Inequality

Nearly 690 million people live on less than 1.90 USD per day. Children make up half the world’s poor and women represent a majority of adults living in poverty in most regions. Greater than 40% of the poor live in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.

Our Poverty & Inequality portfolio centers on exclusionary, coercive, and violent structures that sustain systemic disparities. This includes a range of work on identity-based discrimination (race, ethnicity, sex, gender, sexual orientation, religion and so forth), vulnerabilities driving chronic insecurity, as well as evidence-based solutions that disrupt inequality. Projects within this portfolio are often undertaken in partnership with livelihood, financial inclusion, microfinance, and cash and voucher assistance programs.
